Course Details
B.Ed Programme is a professional course leading to a Bachelor degree in Education the duration of the course shall be 2 years comprising four semesters following annual pattern. The course of study shall be face to face regular attendance is compulsory for the requisite number of lectures besides practical training, field study and internship.
The 2-year semester pattern B.Ed., programme is designed to provide opportunities for students to extend the horizon knowledge in the core as well as to develop competencies of teaching school subjects at secondary and higher secondary level.
Duration of course: 2-year semester pattern.
- B.Ed First semester.
- B.Ed Second Semester.
- B.Ed Third Semester.
- B.Ed Fourth Semester.
Equivalent Subjects
- a) Candidates, who have done their UG Degree in Applied Mathematics can apply for Mathematics
- b) Candidates, who have done their UG Degree in Applied Theoretical Physics, Geo Physics, Bio-Physics and Electronics, can apply for Physical Science.
- c) Candidates, who have done their UG Degree in Applied Chemistry, can apply for Physical Science.
- d) Candidates, who have done their UG Degree in Advanced Zoology, Bio Technology, Plant-Biology, and Plant Bio-Technology, can apply for Biological Science.

- g) Candidates, who have done their UG Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology and Computer Application, can apply for Computer Science.
- h) Post Graduate candidates in Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic, and Indian Culture with not less than 50% (irrespective of their UG Marks) of marks in PG Degree or in the interdisciplinary subject, which are being declared equivalent by the respective University can apply.
- i) Candidates, who have done their PG Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, are eligible to apply Home Science.
- j) Candidates, who have done their U.G. degree in the school subjects: Tamil/Urdu (Urdu in Self-Financing Colleges only), English, Mathematics, Physical Science (Physics), Physical Science (Chemistry), Biological Science (Botany), Biological Science (Zoology), History, Geography, and Computer Science are eligible for admission to B.Ed. However, those who have done the U.G. in the subjects for which equivalence is not covered under the G.O. are not eligible for admission.
- k) All the B.E./B.Tech. graduates irrespective of their Branch in Engineering/Technology are eligible to study either mathematics or physical science as Pedagogy of School Subject. However, the B.E./B.Tech. Graduates in Computer Science related branches and Bio-Technology related branches are also eligible to study Computer Science and Biological Science as Pedagogy of school subject respectively. The reservation of seats for the graduates in B.E/B.Tech in each Pedagogy of School Subject (viz. Mathematics, Physical Science, Biological science & Computer Science) shall be 5% only.
- l) Candidates who have passed Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with not less than 3 years of duration under lateral entry are also eligible for admission.
- (x) Candidates with the following marks in the UG Degree are eligible for admission to B.Ed. Degree programme with the subjects such as Tamil/Urdu (Urdu in Self-Financing Colleges only), English, Mathematics, Physical Science (Physics), Physical Science (Chemistry), Biological Science (Botany), Biological Science (Zoology), History, Geography, and Computer Science. The marks obtained in UG Degree alone shall be taken to arrive the eligibility even if they possess PG Degree in the same subject. For the subject in Home Science, Economics, Commerce, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Logic, Indian Culture, and Philosophy, PG Degree with not less than 50% marks is mandatory and the subjects in UG and PG shall be one and the same

- (xi) Marks obtained by the candidates in the UG Degree Course Part-III / IV Major and Allied including Practical [Tamil/Urdu (Urdu in Self-Financing Colleges only), English, Mathematics, Physical Science (Physics), Physical Science (Chemistry), Biological Science (Botany), Biological Science (Zoology), History, Geography, and Computer Science] alone shall be taken in to account to arrive at the percentage of marks mentioned above. If the candidates possess PG Degree in these subjects, weightage of marks for the highest qualification in the relevant subject will be given as mentioned in the following table and added to the base marks for Ranking. However minimum marks mentioned in the ‘item (x)’ is mandatory for the subjects in Tamil/Urdu (Urdu in Self-Financing Colleges only), English, Mathematics, Physical Science (Physics), Physical Science (Chemistry), Biological Science (Botany), Biological Science (Zoology), History, Geography, and Computer Science and not less than 50% of marks for the subjects in Home Science, Economics, Commerce, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Logic, Indian Culture, and Philosophy.
- (xii) Weightage for the highest qualification in the same subject will be given as follows and added to the base mark for ranking.
a) Candidates with P.G. (Tamil/Urdu (Urdu in Self-Financing Colleges only), English, Mathematics, Physical Science (Physics), Physical Science (Chemistry), Biological Science (Botany), Biological Science (Zoology), History, Geography, and Computer Science) – 4 (four) marks
- b) Candidates with M.Phil. – 5 (five) marks
- c) Candidates with Ph.D. – 6 (six) mark
- a) Candidates with P.G. (Home Science, Economics, Commerce, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Logic, Indian Culture, and Philosophy.) – No marks
- b) Candidates with M.Phil. – 1 (One) marks
- c) Candidates with Ph.D. – 2 (Two) marks Weightage of 3 (three) marks for participation in any one of the following cocurricular activities will be added.
- a) NSS [with two years enrolment in NSS and with a minimum of seven days participation in the Special Camp at College (U.G. degree) level alone will be considered].
- b) NCC [B or C Certificate at college (U.G. degree) level].
- c) Sports [should have represented the college (U.G. degree) at University/State/National level].
- (xiii) Marks obtained by the candidates in the PG Degree [Home Science, Economics, Commerce, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Logic, Indian Culture, and Philosophy] shall be considered eligible for admission, but weightage marks will not be given as specified above.
- (xv) For the students who have done their Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/ Technology, the marks obtained in their Degree shall be taken into account.
- (xiv) Rounding of the marks to the next higher integer shall not be permitted.
- (xv) The candidates who are qualified in UG Degree under Open University System after passing 10th Standard and +2 Examinations shall alone be considered for admission to B.Ed. Degree programme.
- (xvi) The candidates who are qualified in UG Degree under Open University System without passing 10th Standard and +2 Examinations and subsequently passing 10th and +2 examinations are not eligible for admission to B.Ed. Degree programme.
- (xvii) Candidates, who have passed PG Degree in Economics, Commerce, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic, and Indian Culture without undergoing 10+2+3 pattern of education, are not eligible for admission.
- (xviii) In the case of Differently-Abled (Physically and Visually Challenged) candidates, a minimum pass in the requisite qualification is enough.
- (xix) However, the basis of selection shall be in accordance with the Regulations of the Government of Tamil Nadu/ University Guidelines for Admission to B.Ed. Degree programme in force from time to time

Note 1: The major objective of the Pedagogic course is to make the student teachers to get an overview of the content of the chosen subject also to get practiced in classroom teaching at Level –I & Level – II.
Level – I is pertaining to standard VI to VIII and is compulsory for all the student teachers to get many-fold experiences in classroom teaching of their pedagogic subject during the School Internship. The students of Economics, Commerce, Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Logic, and Indian Culture should study and teach the subject Social Sciences, students of Computer Science should study and teach the subject Mathematics; and students of Home Science should study and teach the subject Science prescribed in the school curriculum at Level -I.
Level –II is pertaining to standard IX and X for undergraduate qualified student teachers and standard XI and XII for post graduate qualified student-teachers. The student-teachers need to get an overview of their pedagogy subject prescribed in the school curriculum and also to teach their concerned pedagogic subject at Level –II during the School Internship.
Note 2: The EPC records are to be prepared and submitted at the time of practical examination. The EPC records are to be prepared based on the theoretical inputs and practical experiences gained from reading and reflecting on text, performance in drama and art related to teaching and learning process, critical understanding and usage of ICT for effective teaching and learning process, and understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of one’s own self.
